Legal Information
The Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service provides a way for landlords and tenants to resolve serious disputes outside of court. To be binding, the service is subject to several rules, procedures, laws and regulations.
Amendments to the Residential Tenancies Act and regulations in 2004 and 2005 allowed for the creation of the service. The Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolution Service Regulation establishes the authority to operate the service.
The Rules of Practice and Procedure (pdf) describe the mission of the service and provide a consistent, efficient and just process for resolving disputes.
The service is designed to be easy to use and landlords and tenants will receive help in understanding the dispute resolution process and their rights and obligations.
The Freedom of Information and Privacy Act applies to the RTDRS. Click on RTDRS's Directory of Personal Information Banks (pdf) for more information.
