Registrations are now being accepted for the PIPA Conference 2010 to be held November 2-3, 2010 at the Hotel Arts in Calgary, Alberta. The conference theme, Getting Through the Privacy Jungle: How to See the Forest and the Trees, focuses on practical, real-world problems and solutions. This forum offers an excellent opportunity to hear from privacy regulators, stakeholders, and from business experts around the globe about managing personal information in the electronic age. The Personal Information Protection Amendment Act, 2009 (S.A. 2009, c.50) and the Personal Information Protection Act Amendment Regulation (A.R. 51/2010) came into force on May 1, 2010 (Orders in Council 122/2010 and 123/2010). Electronic versions of the amended Act and Regulation are provided in the Legislation section of this web site. A printed office consolidation of the Act and Regulation will be available for purchase from the Alberta Queen's Printer in the near future.
Three new Information Sheets (10, 11, 12) (all PDF) that explain the changes to the legislation have been added to the Resources section of this web site. Other publications on the web site, where indicated, have been updated to reflect the new amendments.

Three new Information Sheets that explain the changes to the legislation have been added to the Resources section of this web site. Information Sheet 10 (PDF) provides an overview of the new amendments to the Act and Regulation. Information Sheet 11 (PDF) explains the new requirements for organizations to report significant security breaches to the Information and Privacy Commissioner. Information Sheet 12 (PDF) discusses the notification and policy requirements for organizations that use service providers outside Canada.
The Access and Privacy 2010 conference will be held June 9-11, 2010 at the Edmonton Marriott River Cree Resort. The conference program will feature workshops, insightful keynote and plenary speakers and breakout sessions on a number of different topics. A new webpage titled "Non-Profit Organizations" has been added to the PIPA website. It contains links to publications and other resources to help non-profit organizations understand whether they must comply with PIPA. Included on the webpage is a workbook (PDF) that provides best practices that non-profit organizations may wish to adopt to protect personal information of clients, volunteers and employees.
