The overall network structure of the Alberta SuperNet is made up of two parts:

  • Base area network:
      
    • Financed, owned and managed by Bell Canada

    • Made up of 27 urban communities; holds about 2/3 of Alberta’s population

    • Acts as the SuperNet’s backbone

  • Extended area network: 

    • Financed by the Government of Alberta and managed by Axia SuperNet Ltd. as its contracted operator

    • Made up of 402 smaller communities; holds about 1/3 of Alberta’s population
