Debt Repayment Agent's Licence

Definition

A debt repayment agent is a collector employed or authorized by a debt repayment agency to act for or deal with debtors.

Licensing Requirements

To get a Debt Repayment Agent’s Licence you must provide the following:

  • Completed Application (pdf) for a Debt Repayment Agent’s Licence

  • Licensing fee of $72 (Note: Your cheque should be made payable to the Minister of Finance.  If you are applying in person, you can also pay this fee using Debit, Visa, MasterCard or cash.)
Licences take effect the date they are issued.  A Debt Repayment Agent’s Licence expires when the licence of the debt repayment agency for which the collector acts expires.  The department will send your renewal application to the agency before your licence expires.

General Information

Collectors must follow the requirements of Section 12.1 of the Collection and Debt Repayment Practices Regulation regarding prohibited practices and knowledge of the legislation.
